New York Rangers Rally And Defeat The Ottawa Senators 4-1 In Game 4

I know what you’re thinking: “This isn’t about the Blackhawks, what are you doing?!” I know, I know. But it’s playoff hockey and I’m feeling it. So I’m gonna take you through Game 4 between the New York Rangers and the Ottawa Senators. I also live-tweeted the game on my personal Twitter account: @montereypepper so feel free to toss me a follow if you want to follow along with my day-to-day thoughts.

Pregame:

The Senators knew what they needed to do to come back from the 4-1 loss in Game 3. Some key components mentioned were: Getting the momentum early, creating more chaos when the scoring chances aren’t there, being more physical, and better team structure. Three guys also made it back in the lineup after suffering injuries: Bobby Ryan and Tom Pyatt with lower body injuries and Zack Smith with an upper body injury.

The Rangers wanted to keep their momentum coming off of Game 3. Players are looking to keep up the urgency and effort, play hard and physical, make simple plays, get the puck deep, and be ready for anything right from the start.

Period 1: The Rangers came out strong right from the beginning. The Senators struggled to find structure.

Both goalies were strong in net.

Period 2: Starts on a power play for the Rangers. Score is 1-0 NYR.

Things start heating up for the Rangers. They are clearly looking like the stronger team. Senators are still struggling to find structure and momentum and their style of play starts to get scrappy.

Period 3: The score at the beginning of the period is 3-0 Rangers.

Rangers had clear control of the game. Following their pregame advice, they kept a good structure, played hard and physical, showed good effort and were ready for anything. The Senators are still struggling to find their footing. They did not seem like a team who was leading the series 2-0. Karlsson also leaves the game after a collision with Kreider.

Postgame: Rangers pull off the 4-1 win, tying the series at 2-2.

The Rangers knew what they needed to do to win this game and stayed composed and smart enough to pull it off. The Senators talked about needing to match the speed and intensity the Rangers are showing and work on regaining their structure.

The two teams will meet again on May 4 in Ottawa.
